Guide · Moving to Ireland
How to move to Ireland — a 90-day coordinated checklist.
Not "everything you might need to think about". The actual sequence that professional households follow when the move is real — laid out in five phases from decision to settled.
The 90-day sequence
Five phases from decision to settled.
Phase 1 · Day -90 to -60
Decision and shape
- Confirm the Irish role, transfer or business shape.
- Model household finances at Irish take-home pay with a qualified adviser.
- Identify the likely immigration route (Critical Skills, STEP, Stamp 0, family, etc.).
- Agree the target move window with employer, family and, if relevant, investors.
Phase 2 · Day -60 to -30
Immigration and tax in parallel
- Engage qualified Irish immigration counsel; start paperwork.
- Engage US CPA and Irish tax adviser; agree pre-arrival actions.
- Decide on schooling shortlist and application windows.
- Narrow target neighbourhoods against school catchments and commute.
Phase 3 · Day -30 to 0
Housing, banking and physical move
- Search, view and secure short-term or long-term housing.
- Open Irish bank account and organise USD → EUR planning.
- Book international movers; decide what actually ships.
- Confirm private health insurance from day one.
Phase 4 · Day 0 to +30
Arrival and registration
- Register with Immigration; issue IRP (Irish Residence Permit).
- Register with GP, dentist and any specialist providers.
- Utilities, broadband, mobile numbers, TV licence.
- PPS number for each family member; Revenue registration.

- Community, social and professional network setup.
Turn a checklist into a plan
Get one accountable point of coordination across every workstream.
Why sequence matters
Most moves fail on order, not effort.
The most common pattern we see: households start with the visible workstreams — movers, flights, a rental search — and only bring in tax and immigration once those decisions are already made. By then, the shape of the move is fixed and the best options are already off the table.
Working the checklist in the right order is what turns "everything at once" into "one thing at a time". It is also the single biggest reason people book a SettleDone Discovery Call.

Common questions
Moving to Ireland — frequently asked.
- From a serious decision to being in your Irish home, three to nine months is realistic for most professional households. Immigration timelines, school application windows and rental supply are the usual pacing constraints — not the physical move itself.
