The routes

Seven routes cover almost every US-to-Ireland situation.

  1. Critical Skills Employment Permit → Stamp 1

    Professionals with a qualifying Irish job offer in eligible occupations.

    The dominant route for tech, engineering, life-sciences and senior professional roles. Path to Stamp 4 after two years. Spouse and children can accompany; spouse has direct access to the labour market.

  2. General Employment Permit → Stamp 1

    Roles outside Critical Skills lists that meet salary thresholds.

    Slower, more paperwork, and a labour-market needs test may apply. Suitable when Critical Skills does not fit but the role and salary are otherwise standard.

  3. Intra-Company Transfer → Stamp 1

    Existing employees of a multinational moving to an Irish entity.

    Common route for enterprise transferees into Dublin. Sits alongside a corporate mobility programme; SettleDone frequently coordinates the personal side.

  4. Stamp 4 (right to work)

    Long-term residents, certain family members, holders of qualifying permits after two years.

    Full right to live and work in Ireland without a further employment permit. The goal-state stamp for most permanent moves.

  5. Stamp 0 (independent means)

    Retirees and financially independent individuals.

    Granted year-to-year, requires evidence of income and private health insurance. Does not lead to citizenship in the same way as other stamps.

  6. Start-up Entrepreneur Programme → Stamp 4

    Founders of innovative, high-potential businesses with min. €50,000 funding.

    Assessed against innovation and growth criteria. Coordinated with corporate structuring, IDA/Enterprise Ireland engagement where relevant, and personal tax planning.

  7. Join Family / Reunification

    Spouses, civil partners and dependants of Irish citizens or eligible residents.

    Route depends on the sponsor's status. Timelines vary meaningfully; sequencing with schooling and housing is where SettleDone earns its keep.
